"The upcoming March 4 Texas primary has revealed some conservative dissatisfaction with the likely nomination of Senator John McCain for president. This ranks as the most important primary since 1976, when Gerald Ford fought Ronald Reagan for Texas delegates to the Republican Convention.

From elementary is later than many other states, the nominees of both major parties are usually known before the schedules of the presidential contest in Texas. Senator McCain leads the field national Republican Party by a wide margin in the delegate count, with only former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee standing between him and the nomination. With the recent departure from Mitt Romney, both McCain and Huckabee get more support in opinion polls in Texas, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle. On February 8 the Arizona senator respondents 43%, Mr. Huckabee 33%, and Ron Paul drew 9% of likely voters in Texas, home state of Mr. Paul. The 32 congressional districts, each with 3 delegates at stake, for a total of 96, and 41 additional delegates to the winner of the statewide vote, so it is likely that each candidate will win some delegates.

Mr. Huckabee recent victories in Kansas and Louisiana highlight considerable dissatisfaction among some social conservatives with Senator McCain. Many say that McCain has supported the Liberal Party and Democratic positions at the expense of conservative unity, while the Arizona senator feels that by supporting issues on an objective basis, which supports the country on the party ideology and creates the opportunity for bipartisanship. Most of the institutional leadership of the Republican Party of Texas is now compatible with it, including the former Rudy Giuliani supporter of Governor Rick Perry, who has called Mr. Huckabee to withdraw the secular Arizona senator. Even if Governor Huckabee win in Texas, John March McCain for the nomination may be unstoppable.

McCain may experience what happened to Gerald Ford in 1976, when social conservatives in the Republican Party of Texas supported by another person in elementary school and stayed home during the November general election. Another result is that conservatives are unhappy crossed 4 March and vote in the Democratic primary more interesting, since Texas voters can participate in either primary. Jimmy Carter won Texas in the 1976 presidential election, The last Democrat to do so. Probably with McCain on the ballot in November, Democrats might carry Texas again. "
