Edmund is the third of four siblings who are sent to the countryside for protection during the war. There, he (together with John, Susan and Lucy) stumble through a wardrobe into a magical world called Narnia and have a marvellous adventure. At the beginning, Edmund is somewhat surly at times, with bullying and lying tendencies. This is shown when Lucy, the youngest, discovers Narnia before the others. When the others fail to find the magical door to Narnia, they do not believe her, and Edmund in particular takes pleasure in teasing her. Later, he and Lucy make it through, and she thinks that Edmund will now help convince the others of Narnia’s existence. Instead, he lies and says they were merely playing a game. Not long after, all four enter Narnia, where they learn of the White Witch who has placed an evil spell over Narnia, and the need to meet with Aslan in order to defeat her. Unbeknowst to the others, Edmund had already met the White Witch (aka Queen) who promised to make him king over his siblings. Even after hearing her true nature, he steals away from them and goes to find her. He tells himself that the WW is good and wants to get back at Peter (with whom he is angry for ticking him off for lying). From this we see Edmund is weak, selfish, and bears a grudge. When he reaches the WW, she takes him on a terror ride (where we see the first glimpse of compassion in Edmund) and eventually tries to kill him when she senses Aslan’s power growing stronger. He is rescued and taken to Aslan. After a talk with Aslan, Edmund takes a turn for the better, making up with his siblings. He is branded a traitor by the WW but defended by Aslan. At the end, he conducts himself bravely during a battle with the WW’s army and is made a knight. He is crowned King Edmund and reigns together with his siblings over Narnia. At the end, they leave Narnia and return to our world. Edmund’s character throughout the story is one of change for the better.

Such a good movie! He doesn’t show a lot of major development, but I think he develops courage. If you think about it, he starts the movie running away and ends up running towards his enemies. He begins to accept who he is. Kind of a hard movie because he doesn’t change a whole lot.
Are you wanting Peter too? He develops from an angry young man to a mature one. He is upset with his circumstances and takes it out on everyone around him. Soon he learns to let others have the spotlight and therefore shows maturity.
