Hepatitis C is a real threat to our lives
Hepatitis C is considered a very difficult disease, due to the fact that the virus acts in silence and can infect a person for many years until doctors discovered. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), said hepatitis C as an "epidemic silent ", and it seems that people 20 to 30% of chronic hepatitis C is exposed to the future life threatening symptoms.
Hepatitis C was observed U.S. first in 1960, after blood transfusions and injections of drugs began to be widely applied. Nobody knew exactly how many people affected by the disease, until 1990, when the evidence of HCV in the blood have been developed. Studies have shown that in 20 years that a person affected by chronic hepatitis C develop cirrhosis, and many of them become liver cancer. Patients with hepatitis C are considered the need for a liver transplant.
More than 4 million Americans (1.3% of the U.S. population) and 170 million people worldwide (3% worldwide) are infected with hepatitis virus C. The prevalence (number of cases in a population at a given time) of hepatitis C virus infections varies in different parts of the world. It appears that Eastern Europe the prevalence is higher than in Western Europe. It is estimated that 13 cases/100, 000 people of new HCV infections symptoms are discovered each year. In the U.S. There is every years 26,000 new HCV infections found.
In the future, HCV will become a major problem for the health system because many people only have mild symptoms progress to end stage liver and then to liver cancer, so there will be a 528% increase in the need for transplant in the next 10 or 20 years.
Treatment options include interferon (now obsolete), combined with conventional interferon and ribavirin, interferon PEG, pegylated interferon and ribavirin combination. Treatment success can be achieved up to 80% of patients infected with genotype 2 or 3, and less effective in patients with genotype 1.
There are natural cures for HCV, natural products can only protect and support the liver. Another remedy is milk Cardo Maximus, which has scientific validation and is considered useful.
So far, no vaccine has proven effective, and scientists are still looking for a solution. Compounds that specifically interfere with the reproduction of hepatitis C are being studied now.
